It occurred to me that I’ve actually built some cool stuff the last few months and haven’t really shared them with anyone that didn’t happen to just come over and say, “when did you build this?”
So here goes:

LEGO Cylon Raider (from new BSG)
Based/copied very much by this one.

I worked from only pictures, so I did the best I could.
In the end, I thought I did a fairly good interpretation, no?

Bandai 1/72 scale model Macross Frontier VF-25F--Battroid mode

VF-25F--Fighter mode

VF-25S--Battroid mode
After building these kits, toy robot Nirvana may have escaped me, but they got me damn close. I LOVE these kits–LOTS. The DX Chogokin’s are good, but honestly, if you do these kits up proper, they make a better representation of the Macross Frontier CG models in my view.
Just last night, I finished the EVA-02 Bandai HG kit. Pics coming. And there’s that Kotobukiya Linebarrel kit waiting to be built. Lucky for me, time’s something I’ve got.
How much would it cost to build that Raider if I owned no Legos and wanted to buy the kits necessary to do it? Do they even sell non licensed, non specialized Lego sets that are just a bunch of bricks?
And how tall are the Valkyries?
EKM: The new school LEGO Cylon Raider is made up mostly of ass-loads of gray and blue gray slope pieces to create those curves on the wings. I honestly can’t think of any economical way of buying any specific LEGO kits that would contain those pieces in the number you’d need, though. But that’s alright, because there is an absolute awesome place to buy bricks in bulk for cheap prices called bricklink.com. SO much cheaper that way and you can load up on the exact pieces, colors, and sizes needed to build whatever you’d want. That site is how I built up my LEGO collection over the last year. As far as the cost for that Raider goes, I guess-timate it probably set me back $40-50. I can’t remember because I already had some of the pieces.
And there are a few non-commercial custom instructions for stuff out there on the interwebs, some with parts lists. Unfortunately, they rarely include bricks but bricklink really takes care of that. I built a pretty badass Viper that way.
I could always send you some more detailed photos of the Raider. Just e-mail me and let me know. I might even still have a list of the major parts it uses. I worked only from the Flickr photos and tried to deduce what was being used where. And the head on that thing was a bitch!
About the Valks: they stand about 9.5 inches.
